II.1b. A box with a lid and matches –technical description - a blank with an overprint

The blank of the flaps is app. twice bigger than the previously produce standard stiff cigarette boxes and has been produced of the same paper type.

The technical drawings disclose actual dimensions. The model samples have been based on these.

The innovative elements in the construction of the box, which are incorporated in the folding system of the out shell, are as follows:

- The box exterior overprint

The one-sided exterior overprint as previously applied in standard stiff cigarette boxes

- One-sided overprint on the inside of the lid

Making use of a one-sided printing of the graphic design as in hitherto existing stiff cigarette boxes, one achieves simultaneous additional printing on the inside of the hinged lid

- One-sided overprint of the barcode and additional graphic design on the protractive wall

Making use of a one-sided printing of the graphic design as in hitherto existing stiff cigarette boxes, one achieves simultaneous barcode and additional graphic design overprint on the protractive wall from the inside.

- The overprint of a commercial brochure

The choice of the commercial brochure overprint is free, yet the overall graphic design of the box, matches, a gadget or flaps must be taken into consideration.

- The overprint of the match striking surface

the striking surface has been printed together with the exterior graphic design using traditional printing techniques. The striking surface is situated app. 1,5-2,5 mm away from the back edge in order to keep the edge from excessive scratching.  Along the striking surface and above it there is 10 mm free space left for match striking instructions as to the direction of the striking movement.
The size and the graphic design of the striking surface is defined by the amount of successful light-ups, here specified at 22 matches multiplied by 3 (equals 66 times).  For maximum space use and increased box appeal the barcode design of the striking surface can be used as well as others while the functionality of the striking surface is sustained. The striking surface is environmentally friendly and complies with the European norm EN 1743.  The striking surface is located 15 mm from the bottom and 35 mm from the top of the box also to show the user the proper striking direction.
The access to matches and the striking surface is granted only after the cover foil has been removed.
